She Was Buried Alive in the Highlands - Not From HIV, But From STIGMA.
This is one of the 20 true HIV stories from my book, and it still makes me cry. 😢
In the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, a young woman named Vero is still breathing, still alive, still our sister.
But her family thought she was already dead because she had HIV.
They buried her alive.
Not because the virus killed her. But because stigma and fear killed her first.
People ran away. No one wanted to touch her. No one gave her water. They said "HIV is sorcery" "HIV is shame." So they left her in a hole.
This is what stigma and fear does in our villages. It is more dangerous than HIV itself.
I made a 1-minute video of her story so you can feel what she went through. Please watch it.

HIV is not a death sentence. With treatment, a person can live a long, healthy life. What kills people in the Highlands is fear, gossip, and silence.
We must stop burying our people alive with our words.
This is just Story #1. There are 19 more true stories of mothers, fathers, and young people who survived stigma in the Highlands.
I wrote them all in my book:
Book: SILENCED NO MORE - 20 True HIV Stories From PNG Highlands.
Get it here on Amazon: https://amazon.com/dp/B0HM81HRST
Read it, share it with your family, take it to your church and ward meetings.
Together, we can end stigma in PNG.
